{"id":877,"date":"2025-04-29T05:18:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T05:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onesrvmx.com\/?p=877"},"modified":"2025-05-02T22:47:03","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T22:47:03","slug":"family-dies-after-generator-powering-respirator-breaks-during-spain-and-portugal-blackouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onesrvmx.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/29\/family-dies-after-generator-powering-respirator-breaks-during-spain-and-portugal-blackouts\/","title":{"rendered":"Family dies after \u2018generator powering respirator breaks\u2019 during Spain and Portugal blackouts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At least five people have died since an <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/28\/spain-portugal-hit-massive-power-outage-22986297\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/28\/spain-portugal-hit-massive-power-outage-22986297\/\">unprecedented blackout<\/a> brought much of\u00a0<a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/spain\/\">Spain<\/a>\u00a0and <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/portugal\/\">Portugal<\/a> to a standstill.<\/p>\n<p>A married couple and their son were found dead yesterday at their home in Taboadela, a town of less than 1,500 in Galicia, northeast Spain.<\/p>\n<p>The father, 81, who required a respirator, his wife, 77, and their disabled son, 56, are believed to have died&nbsp;of carbon monoxide poisoning after a domestic generator or a fuel appliance malfunctioned. <\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez said the European grid experienced a &#8216;strong oscillation&#8217;, but <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/28\/cause-a-nationwide-blackout-uk-spain-portugal-go-dark-22988325\/\">said the cause is still being determined<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He said at 12.22pm yesterday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/29\/map-shows-cities-hit-power-outage-across-spain-portugal-22990433\/\">Spanish power grid<\/a> lost 60% of its national demand in just five seconds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have never had a complete collapse of the system,&#8217; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The blackout saw thousands of train passengers stranded and left millions of people without phone and internet coverage and access to cash from ATMs across the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/29\/flights-cancelled-power-outage-spain-portugal-madrid-barcelona-22991117\/\">Dozens of flights were also cancelled<\/a>, with passengers <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/28\/flights-cancelled-due-power-outage-spain-portugal-rights-22986547\/\">scrambling to know their rights.<\/a><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least five people have died since an unprecedented blackout brought much of\u00a0Spain\u00a0and Portugal to a standstill.
